About Croatian Schools NSW

Our mission

To support Croatian-Australian families and learners of all ages in preserving and celebrating the Croatian language and culture through accessible, community-led education. We deliver engaging language programs enriched by cultural and community events, nurturing confident speakers with a strong connection to Croatia’s heritage and identity.

We do this by:

  • Providing inspiring Croatian language classes that build communication skills and cultural understanding
  • Connecting young Australians to their Croatian heritage
  • Supporting community involvement and intergenerational learning
  • Promoting respect for linguistic and cultural diversity in Sydney
  • Partnering with families, schools, faith and community organisations to sustain Croatian cultural life

We envision a thriving multilingual community

A future where the Croatian language and culture flourish across generations in Australia, and where:

  • Croatian heritage is lived and shared in and beyond the classroom
  • Learners are confident, culturally-aware and proud of their identity
  • Communities are strengthened through cultural connections
  • Croatian Schools NSW lead community language education, enriching Sydney’s multicultural landscape

Classrooms in our community

The Croatian Schools NSW network includes seven Croatian language schools across Sydney and Western NSW. Our schools operate in public schools, community clubs and churches, and we welcome learners of all backgrounds.

This network allows us to serve a broad and diverse community, connecting students to Croatian language, heritage and culture across the state.

Proudly not-for-profit & accredited

Our Schools are independently operated, not-for-profit community language schools serving the Croatian community in Sydney and NSW. We provide Croatian language education from years K to 12, welcoming learners of all ages and backgrounds.

We are a proud member of the NSW Federation of Community Language Schools Inc. (NSWFCLS), a peak body that unites community language schools across the state. NSWFCLS supports accessible community language education and promotes cultural connection across NSW. For nearly 50 years, it has helped young Australians stay connected to their community languages and cultural heritage.

Croatian Schools NSW schools operate within the NSW Community Languages Program, an initiative of the NSW Department of Education’s Student Support and Specialist Programs, which coordinates curriculum support and accreditation for community language education across the state.

We are a child safe organisation

Croatian Schools NSW and all schools in our network are committed to keeping children safe. We follow a strong Child Safe Framework aligned with NSW Child Safe Standards and National Principles. Our policies guide supervision, online safety, respectful behaviour, safe recruitment, and clear reporting pathways to child protection agencies.

Our teachers, volunteers and committees are trained, verified through the WWCC, and supported to ensure every child learns in a safe, inclusive and culturally respectful environment. We review our framework each year to stay accountable and continuously improve.
